Feast of a Saint: St. Genevieve
May 9 - 10, 2009
FIGHTING, A&S, ARCHERY, FREE FOOD!!!
Come one and all to this year’s Feast of a Saint in Falcon Cree. This year we look on the life and miracles of St. Genevieve. Born at Nanterre near Paris in 422, she led a life of great austerity, constant prayer, and works of charity. Please join us as we celebrate St. Genevieve. We will celebrate her life and look at specific parts of the stories that surround her LONG life.
Activities for the day
Martial Activities
Heavy Fighting and Rapier Fighting
Both will have a Bedford Points Tourney so that the fighters of these fair lands can display their prowess in full. Following each tourney, the field will be opened up for instruction and practice, both melee and singles combat, under His Majesty’s supervision. War looms ever present and we must prepare for it well as we no longer have St. Genevieve to lead the people in such acts of piety that the enemies’ advance is turned aside as the great Hun Attila’s is said to have been.
Arts & Sciences
We will have several different competitions. Bread items (to be judged in the a.m. and used on the luncheon sideboard), reliquaries (a container as would be used to keep a saint’s bones or other such holy relics in), an open competition on period items documentable to Paris. As Genevieve’s path to her Piety began at the young age of 6 or 7, the children will also have the chance to compete of any of the above challenges.
Feast
St. Genevieve led a life of GREAT austerity, refusing to eat any flesh meat and for over 30 years, she only broke her fast 2 times a week. We will NOT be celebrating this part of her life. A large Feast is planned to ensure no one feels the sorrowful pangs of hunger this weekend. Feast will be prepared by Les Sudentineere Glutinieres. Please contact Lady Victoria Pringle with any concerns.
Other Information
There will be a novelty course set up to test people's knowledge of this great saint’s life and times and to perhaps teach a thing or two as well. This course will be open to non-fighters, fighters and children all. If chairs sturdy enough can be found there will also be armored musical chairs. You have been warned. SUNDAY: A great fighter practice will be held just as soon as the site is cleaned up.
